RIP Umaga

umaga4.jpg

You know the story. Eddie “Umaga” Fatu was 36 years old and is dead for no reason. The word is consecutive heart attacks but who knows? He just got back from Australia where he did four shows on the “Hulkamania Tour”.

Umaga was not only The Rock’s cousin and Rikishi’s brother but a really strong wrestler in his own right. He was super athletic and had some great matches over the last few years. He was released by the WWE in June for violating their wellness policy.

RIP buddy.

  1. you know it wasn’t “no reason”… dude was poppin’ pills, refused help for his prescription pill use. its a fucking shame – too many wrestlers go out like this.

  2. Had to leave a comment on this. Damn, RIP Umaga. 2009 such an incredible year for shocking deaths.

Just looking back, Umaga was definitely 1 of my favorite wrestlers in the last few years.. an athletic superheavyweight for sure. From the tribal entrance music, all the way to the samoan spike for the finish, great performer.

R.I.P. to Eddie Fatu aka Umaga (the Samoan Bulldozer)

  4. I Need a Job (and other random thoughts)

By pmd on Sep 6, 2006 in Hip Hop, Life | ShareThis

Yeah dude. My JFK money has come and gone (I knew I shouldn’t have bought that 100 dollar chain) and I need to find a way to support my taco bell and vinyl habit. I’m really avoiding a real job, though. I know I need to pursue djing, but I’ve been out of the game for a minute, and it takes a lot to work your way back into the club scene. And idealy, I would love to play good music as opposed to Lil Scrappy and Lil John, or Young Joc and Young Dro—or Young Scrappy and Lil Dro. You get the idea. So if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on gigs in DC–get at cha cyat damn boy. I’m open to ideas.

Also I want to apologize for everyone who tuned in to yesterday’s podcast and found nothing but old shit. Comcast goes out when it rains apparently and I can’t get an appointment to have it fixed til Friday. Fortunately, things dried up and we’re back in business.

I tried to make up for the missed show with a special in studio visit from J-Live (www.J-livemusic.com). J is legend of the underground now and it was nice getting to kick back with one of the better MCs outta NY over the last decade or so. So check that too! This interview is the equivalent of radio make-up sex to you as a listener.

YOU WROTE THAT POST THREE YEARS AGO, AND LOOK AT WHERE YOU’RE AT NOW. KEEP GRINDING MY DUDE AND KEEP SUPPORTING THAT REAL HIP HOP… AND JUAN EPSTEIN. RIP EDDIE.

  7. Wild how suddenly it happened… six months ago, I was disappointed to see him get let go, as he was easily the best big man they’d had in a looooong time. I’d always figured he’d come back one day, and maybe they’d finally do an Undertaker/Umaga feud, which I’d been wanting to see for the longest.

But lo and behold, dude is gone now. And yeah, it’s probably due to the same reason he got let go. How many deaths like that need to happen before people decide to leave that shit alone?
