Cuban Linx 2 vs Blueprint 3

Yeah I know it’s obvious, but I’m still curious for what people think. I’m so biased towards OB4CL that I’m not even one to judge, especially because I have been so disappointed by everything Jay that I have been hearing. I sort of like “Off That” and I dig the Alicia Keys joint, but I hate “Run this Town” and another one that I heard. I will try to give both albums a thorough listening this weekend, but on first run through I definitely thought Cuban Linx sounded crazy. Again, though–I’m biased. What’s the verdict?

  5. yo, lets take a shot at this

before giving you my point of view, i would like to say that I am from France,
consequently English is NOT my native tongue (LOL)
therefor I cannot be the best judge on this since I wont understand 100% the lyrics of the MCs ( feel me?)

Also, I dont want to criticize you Peter, but I think that both album will have hard time being compared since the Jay-z is “more commercial”, , more bigger audiance so the album has to be in a way : “commercial”….I mean who is the world doesnt know Jay-Z ???

Not disrespecting the Chief, who is not known by the “average guy”, but more buy the hip-hop heards….I mean Raekwon is not on Magazine/TV/Radio all day, and he is not spending his vacassion in Saint Tropez as far as I know…..

anyway, this being said, I think that Jay-Z album was cool (I havent listen to it a lot)…I like the Timbo song, and Swiss song is my favorite( the beat is sick)
I found that this ablum is very similar to previous Jay-Z albums : having Timbo, Pfarrel, Kanye, Swiss…

Speaking of Cuban links 2: I really like it !!!
Thanks god the beats are pretty decent… I mean Wu Tang album are having hard time getting banging beats like they used to have in 95…but this one did the job. It is not as good as Culan Links 1 but I was prepared for that before listening to part 2….
But for some reason, I thought I would be dissapoiunted by part 2 but I wasn’t at all
…it’s even Raekwon best album since Cuban Links 1 !!!!

to conclude, and to make i simple
    Hard to compare thos albums
    Raekwon is really good
    Jay Z is cool also
Since I am french, I cannot understand the Magic that those lyrisist brings to the table..but those Albums are not for English speakers only SO i wanted to let ya know how we feel on the old continent

    peace

  6. OB4CL2 all day. I’m a fan of both but like you said, no question. BP3 ain’t going on the ipod.

  7. It’s not being biased, it’s just not even CLOSE.

Jay-Z sounds tired doing the same stuff, his introspective street songs sound less mature than they did on Reasonable Doubt, and when he raps about being young it’s cringeworthy. Most the beats would be better with kanye or someone on them

Raekwon has done what he should have always been doing and made a great ALBUM, not just 22 random songs and it’s a solid sequel in 2009 terms. Most irritating thing is that any Wu member could have done an album like this if they could of been bothered.

  8. OBFCL2 >>>>>>>>>>> BP3

I don’t know why everyone is making excuses for Jay. Wack is wack. I like Jay too, but for people to act as is these to albums are equal is a joke. I’m seeing sites review both albums song by song. They completely shit on Jay’s album, and praise Rae’s. But then give them both an 8/10 rating. Lets be real, BP3 is more like a 3/10 and OBFLC2 is a 9.5/10. No offense to Jay, I understand why his fans defend him. He’s a legend. I love Nas, he is one of my favorites. I tried to love “hiphop is dead”. But after giving it a chance it just wasn’t that great. Nas is still great, but he missed the mark on that particular album. Same with Jay, he can do way better than BP3. When Rae dropped “Immobilarity” no one cut him slack. Everyone said it was wack besides the Sneaker joint, and rightfully so. Since when is there legit excuses for a weak album.

  9. Jay is good but feels way too commercial for my taste. It has a more mainstream appeal on it, which I feel it hurts it considering his pedigree.
Raekwon…easy 2nd best album of his career. He gunned for a cinematic feel on the album and didn’t half ass about it (that producers list is crazy alone). He tried to out do OBFCL and the sequel sounds good because of it (even though he did not out do it).
    just my opinion kids.

  10. Maybe I just have different tastes, but I’m excited for both. Let’s be real here though: As far as Wu goes, has Rae ever been a really super exciting rapper? Isn’t Jay-Z, at times, an over-hyped too-good-for-rap rapper? These guys are good for different reasons and both have their weak points.

I heard all of BP3… some songs are EXTREMELY questionable (Forever Young… I hate the trend of people saying it, but at the end of that track someone should just say “Pause”). But he has some shining moments and can still pull off some slick wordplay. You can tell Kanye had a hand in it. It’s somewhat experimental which can turn people off (That Swizz Beats beat is grating).

I heard a lot of OB4CL2 and while I LOVE Rae, I think he can come off as weak without good production and/or features. That being said, the album is sounding dope. Though it doesnt take as many chances as BP3,it does what it does well. It’s good to see people checking for him again (People definitely weren’t this hyped for The Lex Diamond story).

Either way, I’ll be supporting both, but if I had to say which one to buy (and I emphasize BUY. Let’s actually support our artists.) it would have to be OB4CL4.

    but OB4CL pt2 is Ill.
Def a good week for HipHop all in all.

  13. I respect lyrics and metaphors and jay’s album is def not wack. He checked a couple dudes and let him know why he’s still here. His beat selection could be better at times but content is usually fire. It’s not a classic but not wack. This is coming from someone who bumps obcl religously. I will def check out part 2. and get back to you.

  14. The main thing that gets me about the two albums is the production. Jay says he dumbs down his lyrics for mass appeal and raps over shitty beats so people pay more attention to him rather than the beat…

Whereas Rae raps over a Dilla joint. It’s obvious who cares more about the shit they put out.

    vgambit | Sep 4, 2009 | Reply

  15. OB4CL2 for sure.

Wish he’d have got Premo and Havoc on there but the tracks fit together regardless of who made the beat. Its a long, long album but its great. Shame the Pete Rock joint is recycled from the Royal Flush cut on Pete’s last record, still ill though.

  16. As more of a Jay-z fan than a Rae fan (LOVE ghost + Wu, but raekwon as an mc was never my favourite) i can safely say OB4CL2 fucking smacks the SHIT outta the new jay album

I agree with TL, cuban linx 2 cud be the album of the year, im definately going to buy it, yes the actual CD!! the BP3 is disapointing, altho its definately not wack, its not the kind of album we were all hoping he would make. some tunes on there for sure, but some also some pure wackness as well

    eh

  18. i think you would be hard pressed (ayo! pause) to find anyone with a deep understanding of hip hop as an art form to proclaim that BP3 was a better album than OB4CL2.

you can hear the proof. ask yourself one year from today, “do i wanna bump that jay or that rae?” simply put, OB4CL2 is a timeless album.

    peace.

  20. i had these albums a little over a week now (DL’d off the net). these two are definatly on MY top 5 mc’s of all time. and i must say after thoro listening that Jay album is not all that good . im really upset and very disappointed about it. granted he’s got a couple songs that are good but not steller. Now that raekwon album is brilliant. im thinking album of the year. the lyrics and production was on point.you can let the whole album ride. i can tell he put in a lot into this lp. Im definatly going to the store and buying OB4CL2! . as for jay..i hope the next album he goes back to the basics and really puts his all in it. cause he rushed through that album.

also, pete where is juan ep? we’re dying over hear.

  21. You might be biased but OB4CL2 is waaaaaayyyy better than blueprint 3. I have listened to both of them on the way to work and in the gym. With Jays I cant find one that just makes me want to hear it over and over and on Raes I cant find one that I want to skip. Im not saying Blueprint 3 isnt good but im just not feeling it. I wont say its that hes getting old like some stupid ass people are saying because I would think you would get better the more time you did something. Plus add the fact that I couldnt put down his last album. I can rap along to the lyrics of American Gangster. As for Cuban links. Im just glad that Ghost went in. From what they were saying earlier I didnt think Ghost was going to be on it very much. Long story short. THEY WENT IN.
Only Built For Cuban Linx 2 Wins this one. NO DOUBT.

  24. You already know its Cuban Linx, and I love Jay-z, but honestly that c.d. is whack. Rae put mad time in his shit and it shows. Plus the production is much better on Cuban Linx, all the beats bang. Anyone who thinks different obviously don’t like real hip-hop. PEACE

  25. being that ob4cl2 took so long and people had such high expectations it usually had to disappoint – but it did quite the opposite. Best album of year!

Now there’s also hope for Detox and Greatest Story Never Told

Until now, I listened to BP3 only once and have to say that I’m not convinced (to quote Joschka Fischer)

  26. Yea I’m back so I finally got that obcl II after already having bp3. Let me tell you this bp3 is a banger no doubt. But I can’t stop listening to obcl II it literally is like a continuation of the first one. Straight fire pretty much through out. And I respect raekwon for stepping his lyrics up. I have to go with obcl II over bp3. And I”m a jay head but raekwon put out a better hip hop smack you in the face album. Jay has more of a club banger and got at cats for doubting him. Either way I respect good music can’t wait for some new kayne and clipse to drop.

    Peace

  29. BP3 only good songs r empire state of mind… which is fuckin good, and venus vs mars, which has some raw metaphors, that one about the coke bottle is fire… but otherwise, it is pretty much wat i expected.

OB4CL2, only 2 faults… slick rick didnt spit a verse wtf. u hav 2 of the best story tellers on a song, and the best one doesnt spit!!
he didnt put criminology pt 2.
nas not being on the album is not a disappointment, he would not hav lived up 2 that verse.

songs that not gettin hype they deserve:
sonnys missing… poss best song ive heard in a long time, its just straight up raw
broken safety… styles p is amazin on that

10 bricks is wkd, like a old school wu, as is daggers n new wu.

OB4CL 2 is a sick album and whey betta than BP3 in my opinion, and judgin by others reception, it culd be a classic… i would give it 5/5.
only albums he will probably hav 2 contest wiv is rakim seventh seal, rakim is always dope, neva dropped a bad album.
royce street hop… we all no he is on form, shake this and gun harmonizin… fuck
