Top Five Wrestlers Who Have Passed On…
By pmd on May 9, 2009 in Random, Wrestling |
I’m watching the Summerslam Anthology these days and it’s just unbelievable to me that so many amazing talents could be gone. I just watched Mr. Perfect against The Texas Tornado. Now I’m watching a Hart Foundation-Demolition match (with the late Crush). On this Summerslam alone–here’s the list of wrestlers who are no longer here:
Kerry Von Erich (The Texas Tornado)
Mr. Perfect
Crush
Sensational Sherri
Bad News Brown
Big Bossman
Rick Rude
Earthquake
Hercules
Dino Bravo
It is so insane and tragic. This week Bret Hart was interviewed about wrestlers and drug abuse/death came up. He had a lot of interesting stuff to say. Check it out..
Anyways top five wrestlers who have died? Mine on May 9, 2009 are:
Owen Hart
Mr. Perfect
Kerry Von Erich
Davey Boy Smith
Chris Benoit
That could change tomorrow though. Your turn…

Mr.Perfect vs Benoit in a Iron man match would be soooooo classic.
When did BossMan die?!?!?!?!
Damn I didn’t know Dino Bravo and Crush died too.

yeah man - i have WWE On Demand, and most of the time I watch shit and its like - OK all of them are dead. Like watching the “Monday Night War”-era Hart Foundation - Davey Boy, Pillman AND Owen are gone.
@Nightfall - Dino Bravo been dead - he got merked, gangland style. Crush died a year or 2 ago.

I got a ton of old wrestling tapes/dvds and it’s sad how many are dead. Sadder even is how many more you know you’ll hear about dying the same way.
My top 5 (in no particular order) would be
Eddie Guerrero
Chris Benoit
Road Warrior Hawk
Owen Hart
Rick Rude

Adding to your deathcount from Summerslam 1990, Sapphire and Lord Alfred Hayes are also dead. Wrestling had its first boom in Denmark in the late 80’s and early 90’s and when people that used to be fans talk to me about wrestlers my answer 90% of the time is “oh yeah, he’s dead.”
My top five would be:
Owen - it’s the saddest, cause he didn’t die due to any neglect on his own part.
Kerry Von Erich - hit kinda hard, cause it was when I was still a kid, and I had seen him live (he was over huge in Germany), but I had no idea about the Von Erich suicides at the time.
Davey Boy Smith - also a childhood favorite, I was @ Summerslam 92, and learning from Bret’s book that Davey Boy showed up wasted to the match is creepy.
Earthquake - was really weird, cause he was on the wrestlecrap forum writing about his battle with cancer all the way up until his death. Seemed like a great guy.
Eddy Guerrero - happened when I had grown kinda immune to wrestling deaths, like they were part of the business, but one of my friends took it really hard, which made me see it in a different light.

You nostalgic wrestling heads need to move on. It’s time to grow up - you are not fourteen anymore.

First off @ James: Go fuck yourself. If you don’t like it that’s your business but pro wrestling is an art form to all those who love it. Anyway here is my top 5 in no specific order:
Owen Hart
Brian Pillman
Eddie Guererro
Mr. Perfect
Chris Benoit
Also Rosenberg you gotta tell us where you got that Bret T-shirt in the Roth vs Ross video that shit is FIRE.

don’t forget about brian pillman. that was tragic man. and don’t forget louie spicolli (aka rad radford in wwf). he was an amazing performer, especially in his stint in ecw.
