  1. I peep Real Late on the regular, as much as a listener from New Zealand can. I’m subscribed to the podcast, so I usually wait for the shit to come thru the podcast rather then come here to dl.

  5. I assumed this was the only reason people came to this site? Oh, there was a funny spoken-word podcast you used to do with some puerto rican guy back in the day too.

  6. With zshare uploads, you can see how many times they’ve been dl’ed.
The first hour of the last show sits at 317 dl’s.
And surely you can get stats frim iTunes.

It’s not a whole lot, but compared to some of the other dl’s around, I’d say it’s fairly decent.

But of course, the more consistent the uploads, the more consistent the listeners :-)

  9. Yo Pete,
Whats the deal homey ? I mean its all good that you show love for the un-heard of up and coming stars that we all only here because you show them love but damn dog I thought you would have more appriciation for the ones doing it big rather than keep givin spins to these suckas stuck in the 90’s. I mean do you hear that same tired garbage that Reggie and Clifford are spittin or do you just listen to it. Pete you know that these guys will never be the same again I mean sure they made classics so play the classics that we all grew up loving and playing every morning on the way to school dont play this garbage that they are making now that has no relevance at all today in hip hop and honestly shits on the legacy that they took a long time to lay down for todays stars that honestly dont deserve the bennifits that the Reggies and Cliffords established doing there thing in the Nineties. I mean seriously do you really think that the Asher Roth/Slick Rick colab deserves any love at all thats like you playin a Drake/Dana Dane cut on your next real late because you think its hot. Your startin to look like a boxer that doesnt know whenn to quit Pete. I wish you would leave the sucka hits for the suckas and be on that new ISH and quit being lazy and do it up like you used to instead of playin Asher Roth and bullish like MIKE LEGACY oh featuring SKAZOO what the hell dog have you heard that Deeper than Rap record or are you still watchin reruns of The Great American Bash from 13 years ago. The lane that your in is not for the hip hop fan at all its more for the european backpacker that is rockin that new Capone and Noreaga like its really flame. Asher Roth is so played and in 3 years if hes still around it will be very surprising and stupidly disapointing. BRING BACK JUAN EP this other stuff is for fugazzis wherin a back pack and celtics fans that listen to asher roth on there way to the Garden.

  16. hey peter,
what makes you think people dont listen to your show ? that statement makes me think thats the reason you take forever to post the show. so to answer your question, yeah people do listen to your show. Rosenberg is a brand, if u havent guessed. so WE are listening to watever u post (except for the morning show).

  17. I listen to RL every week, and have actually been downloading it of late from your Twitter feed, as you seem to post it a day or two early there.

I’ve been listening to the show for probably a good year or so now, and most weeks I enjoy it. You’ve put me onto a lot of the younger artists that I wouldn’t have given a shit about otherwise. I never gave Asher Roth the time of day until you played “The Lounge”, and I would have no clue who cats like B.O.B., Jay Electronica or Homeboy Sandman were if it wasn’t for Real Late. Plus, you put me onto Chester French, who dropped probably the most entertaining album I’ve heard so far this year.

If I can make a suggestion, though, put a greater focus on the youngsters than the increasingly dull “real hip-hop” stuff getting pumped out by the veterans. The shows that are heavy on new artists are a lot more entertaining than the ones weighed down by guys who hit their peak 15 years ago releasing bitter anti-commercial tirades over droning Primo-redux beats. And it hurts to say that, because I grew up on and still love boom-bap, but there’s a point where these guys need to either grow as artists or just go away. Battle raps aren’t cute when your 37.

  18. Earkle Jones your opinion is so lame. The only problem I got with Peter Rosenberg is that he and Cipha Sounds has not put out Juan Ep in over a month. Earkle, you worried about Peter on Asher Roth’s dick, but then ask about why Peter ain’t listening to Deeper Than Rap? That album may got dope ass beats, but Rick Ross is still fuckin garbage. I rather listen to Asher Roth’s sometimes-dopeness and sometimes-boredom than Officer Ricky and the Eminem that’s out now. Every single I’ve heard from Em so far sucks. Disappointing that 50 sounds more entertaining than Em.

  19. rather listen to asher then rick ross!!! i guess when you hop in your car this summer and the sun is shining and your windows are down your gonna be pumpin asleep in the bread isle.. fuck outta here lol. the beats on the dtr are hott but if you listen ross flows too .. “he aint bigger than biggie, bitch im bigger than you” stuff like that, so simple but its the swag.. shit makes you feel good when you play it…. i dont even listen to real lates cuz the two i heard a while back were on some illa j shit and i cant rock with that. i think its like earkle said, if your putting these songs on your real late for yourelf thats wuts up just call it the rosenberg playlist lol… but if your trying to have a broad fanbase then you need to broaden the music u play.

i fuck with u tho pete ur a funny dude but i think you guys should do another juan ep and also wheres so more down south love… gucci mane just got outta jail doin hella shows about to drop a mixtape/album whatever, u should make that happen…

it doesnt matter tho just had nothing better to do than complain..

    do it live

  24. Am I the only one here who agrees with earkle?

The morning show is fucking annoying now. If i wanted to hear a drag queen make crank calls, I’d go over to your mother’s house! HIYOOO!

Seriously though, The morning show was way better when you guys had little bits and skits and shit, it showed more of both you and Ciph’s personality….And now what do we get? Lame-ass celebrity gossip segments between Cipha Sounds the “world class old school hip hop DJ” mixing up “blame it on the goose” 5 times in 3 hours. Get the fuck outta here with that corny playlisted bullshit.

And sorry, but I’m done with Real Late too if all you’re doing is pumping up asher wack-ass roth. I know you’re trying to be that dude who rides the crest of the wave of the new hip hop, but asher is so wack and such a fad, I don’t understand how someone who is seemingly intelligent can be such a terrible judge of musical staying power. Asher will be here and gone in less than a year, and all your pumping him up is only gonna make you look wack in the end. mark my words.

And all of us commenting on here, are here because of one reason: JUAN EPSTEIN….yet there’s been none for over a month. You’re letting down the fans that made you what you are, Peter. Kick all this wack shit to the curb and fix up your game, son. Be the true hip hop head we all know you can and want to be.

  25. oh, and PS: Cipha Sounds co-signing that wack loser Drake is the biggest disappointment in this whole fucked up situation. I mean dude “”"”"freestyles”"”"”" while reading writtens off a blackberry, AND he was starring on a kids’ TV show less than one year ago.

    THAT
    IS
    NOT
    HIP HOP.

  26. It’s a sorry indictment of today’s Hip Hop scene when the only thing worth listening to on a Hip Hop radio show is the 80’s/90’s segment.

  31. i still rock ‘real late’ but the morning show is not as good as the previous format.

Like Miles D said, it’s less personality and more news that people will hear anyway. And the music is too repetitive.

Juan Epstein is uncut so people will always like it best. It’s real talk! Not fair to compare it to a morning show!?

    UK always shows love!

  33. it’s sad that we are in a time where people are calling redman and method man wack now. so sad.

i don’t know who’s comment is worse — earkle or domo? asking pmd to play gucci mane is like asking soulja boy to like wu-tang — it ain’t going to happen. and rick ross thinks he’s hip hop now cause he’s rapping on samples and because that 50 and em fell off he feels like he’s better. fuck outta here. i could of sworn that he said that he ain’t on that rap shit when he first came out, now he wanna talk about good music?

yall wanna talk about pmd not being with the times, yet when he was all on lil wayne during the carter 3, yall was telling him to bring it back, but when he plays redman and method man yall say he’s irrelevant. get ya mind right.

  36. Wow, lay off my man P for just a minute. I’ve been listening to Real Late since Rosenberg came to Hot 97, and I would’ve been tuning in to ‘JFK had I known he was there too since I live in the DC/Baltimore metro.

Urban radio needs a shot in the arm, and this show has done that. There aren’t many radio stations in the mid-high 90 megahertz range that are willing to play the type of records we hear on this show. The only other comparable radio show I can think of is The Come Up Show on Power 99 in Philly. Other than that, you have to search for a quality college radio show if you really want to get away from the glitzy hip-pop, Southern garbage that has a stranglehold on urban radio. I give Hot 97 props for remembering the importance of the DJ and giving so many of them a chance to give the audience something new.

P keep doing your thing. I’m feeling some of Asher myself. Even if he falls off, it doesn’t mean that some of his songs aren’t true bangers. Its a shame that solid artists are falling off in the shadows of all these Lil Wayne rehashes and autotune addicts.

Keep doing what you do. And to the person who mentioned Drake “freestyling” off his Blackberry, I agree that shit was wack. He’s wack. Needs to go back to playing the handicapped kid on DeGrassi.
