Video: “Be By Myself” Asher Roth feat. Ceelo Green
By pmd on May 1, 2009 in Videos |
I know I didn’t say much about Asher-gate and I apologize, but I think the last thing that situation needed was another white man’s oppinion. That said–I know who Asher is and I’m glad he finally released a statement that comes from the heart. The 24 hour news cycle is a b*tch.
I enjoy Asher Roth but other then Em the hottest and best white rapper right now is Classified who’s canadian, but if he was from the states he’d be huge right now…

Honestly, the whole “Asher-gate” thing was moronic.
As a black man, stuff like this offends me for the simple fact that it trivializes the very concept of racism. I can’t fathom any reasonable person reading Asher’s lame joke and seeing it as the declaration of a card-carrying bigot. The “outage” over it just gives fuel to those who say that blacks are over-sensitive and desperate to see racism in any and everything.
It’s hilarious that in this musical genre, where the most vile, base, brutish stereotypes of black masculinity are championed, a white boy rapping about the same innocuous white boy shit the Beastie Boys did two decades ago is supposed to be some sort of threat to the culture.
I think Phonte said it best with “I love hip-hop, I just hate the niggas in it”.

Tyler – Classified sucks a fat dick with his corny re-hashed bullshit. If I wanted more of that, I’d pop in a Choclair tape from 2001. Fuck outta here with Classified.
Asher Roth isn’t the greatest rapper I’ve ever heard, and it was a stupid joke to make.

Anyone who got seriously, legitimately offended by Asher’s twitter joke is a serious moron.
I, on the other hand, am I offended that a dope ass beat and killer Cee-Lo hook were wasted on this clown. Seriously, this kid just straight up sucks, come on.

Man, Asher is Dope people hate on him because its not “hip hop” to be white and be able to spit.
They said the same thing about Eminem until he basically Slayed benzino and murder inc along with 50.
Asher is literally an underdog coming into the rap game, but if you listen to his verses on Sour patch kids this guy is no joke.
Hip hop isnt about just gettign money…its a way of having fun and spittin over dope beats. Asher is def. doin it

i’m black, and i wasn’t offended at all about asher’s comment. and all the people who had to post comments talking shit or saying that they won’t listen to his music anymore… all yall did was make asher roth more popular. one minute, people are saying that asher’s carrer is over, the next minute, he’s #5 on the billboard. thanks haters for making this dude become more popular.
yall still don’t get it from people hating on soulja boy, the haters promote artists more than the fans. instead, talk more shit about the artists who needs the exposure so that people can pay attention to them.
peter rosenberg, much respect…
by the way, i’m not an asher roth fan, but his album isn’t that bad. sour patch kids and fallin is dope.

marco, hip hop is not about having fun and spitting over dope beats. it’s about making music. and asher just doesn’t have musical integrity.
pmd, when will you publicly show your regret for the roth cosign? i thought it would happen right after the mtv spring break shit. act now before the golden era community starts to think that you’re gassed.

smh @ rapguru
to most people (underground AND mainstream), making music IS having fun and spitting over dope beats. to some people, making music is tackling serious issues over beats that are made to be thought provoking. some people make music for the clubs, while others make music for the mind. some make music for the love, while others make music for the money. joe budden’s said it best, “there’s two sides to the coin, who you rollin with…”
and let’s be real, the most popular rappers WILL NEVER be the most talented rappers. if that was the case, then royce da 5’9″ would be in nelly status right now as far as popularity and sales. talib kweli would be the president of def jam. little brother would be the kings of the south. you get the picture…
kudos to aaron’s comment… if you don’t like asher roth, then stop wasting energy talking about how wack he is and use that same energy to talk about the rappers that you think NEED THE SPOTLIGHT (wonder why ELZHI is getting no exposure). because of negative comments, yall the reason why soulja boy and rick ross STILL HAVE A CAREER.
“i don’t talk about rappers i don’t like…” – (r.i.p.) big pun
and the way that i feel right now, FUCK THE GOLDEN ERA COMMUNITY, cause yall spending more time putting people down than supporting real hip hop. yall think dissing peter rosenberg is going to make him less popular? if i was pmd, i would post another asher roth video just to have yall complain. i rather have a million haters (oh, excuse me, people with opinions) than a hundred thousand fans.
