i appreciate the discussion you and ciph had this week on real late about rappers getting gassed about blog buzz. i can’t front, i was open the first time my video was posted on nahright, it took me a while to get eskay’s attention, and when he finally put “my ferris buellers” video up, it was like the powers that be were showing me some respect for my material, even though i was just a white rapper from white plains, new york with no deal. seeing my stuff on the same spot i go to everyday for new shit was real cool. since then they’ve posted a bunch of my songs and videos and even my latest mixtape (shout out to nation!), and i appreciate every post. but being on nahright hasn’t gotten me the buzz i need to get a record deal, or the attention of management, or an agent. it has got me a lot of haters though!!!! hahaha….
similarly, having two intros in heavy rotation on your hot 97 morning show, and “my ferris buellers” and “wifey material” played on hot 97, the most respected hip hop radio station in the world, has gotten me a lot of respect locally, but no deal, no manager or agent interest, and certainly no dough.
shit, i’m on matisyahu’s youth album, which is platinum, and though i’ve gotten the chance to perform all around the country at some sick venues like msg, hammerstein ballroom, the greek theatre in la etc, and i’ve gotten a little publishing cake from the song, i still haven’t caught the buzz i need to really break through.
some people will say it’s cuz i’m white, or i don’t go to industry parties and schmooze, or cuz i dissed asher roth, or i’m too old, or i have bad luck and haven’t been in the right place at the right time, or maybe cuz i’m just not good enough and i suck at rapping. but the truth is that if i sucked, i wouldn’t be on nahright and i wouldn’t be on hot 97, and i wouldn’t be on matisyahu’s major label album. but since i still don’t have a record deal or a manager who wants to work with me or a booking agent, all which i would need to live off rap, i have to get my chips the only way i really can, which is to work full time with the youth, directing cultural arts programs for kids, the career i’ve always had since i graduated college. and therefore, i can’t go on tour or be in the studio all day or all night because i have to put that work commitment first.
i’m not gassed off the blogs, or the spins, or the big album or stage looks with matis, but for a guy like me who lays tracks on his laptop at 10 am, takes a shower and goes to work and logs on to his computer and sees the same song he put down two hours earlier featured on the most respected hip hop blog in the world, it feels good. but cipha told me “don’t get gassed”, so i won’t….
thanks for supporting me rosenberg and let me tell a side of the blog story, it means a lot. the show was dope as usual, you got a lot of fans in westchester, come visit sometime. and you gotta get that new rae and ghost with meth on the hook for next week’s show, that shit is crazy!
peace,
ip
ps. tabi bonney makes dope songs…i love “rich kids”, and the song “dope” on his first album is just that, dope….been listening to him for a while now, i used to live in dc and went to college park too, i can relate to his shit and the slang he uses…
“the first hit could be your last, so don’t pop your whole top off hotels and grass, drink it in roll the smoke up slow, it’s just a matter of time before you blow, you never know dan dynamite….”
Great show as usual, I’m a bit annoyed that you’re playing what should be ‘exclusive’ joints like Criminology 2 and the internet has had them 3 days and they’re ‘old’ already. I miss the days of hearing a new song on the radio for the first time ever.. Maybe I’ll quit the internet for a few weeks!
you guys can critique all day, roseyberg’s still gonna do his show his way. talkin over exclusive’s (annoying), running back the record 1200 times(off beat) … love the show but bottom line. he’s gonna do it his way.
hey, call it hate all you want. i call it critiquing
What are you doing?
First you leave us hangin’ for at month, then you return with a crazy vulcano of magma and heat rocks - but you don’t tell us what songs they are?
I need to know what that Blaq Po + Premo joint is!
And the song after, which I guess is Premo too from the edits?
I like how Rosenberg has his show set up. He does it his way. Real raunchy like late night radio programs use to be. Keep up the good work Rosenberg. By the way “Criminology 2″ is a dope record to start off this episode with. Although i dislike Raekwons idea of throwing the numbers at the end of his album title, song titles. Like Tips quote on midnight mauraders “Extra P said not to say the years because this shit is til infinity” Peace!
Yes please, I need a tracklisting too! there’s a few! Need to know about the tune after the Oddisee one… Was it really Phantasm The Tall Man from Cella Dwellas feat. Sadat X???? Also, I NEED to know the name of song AND artist of the tune after the Reks joint…Who’s it????
finally, you brought your azz away from being a westling groupie to bring us some hiphop.
keep it up, an u might produce another Juan Ep.
