1. PMD, you know the first thing people are going to say about your comments regarding Soulja Boy is “Why didn’t you say that to his face during the interview?” Sadly, even if you would have found a tasteful way to tell him he sucks, he has no incentive to listen to you or I or Ice-T or anyone else. He certainly sells enough records to say otherwise; any criticism would be dismissed by the ignorant and naive 18 year old as “hateration.” Unfortunately, if you were born in 1990, and on top of that, born in the South, there’s a high likelihood that he won’t have respect for Nas or any other up North hip-hop icons. He’s still going to put out shit music, but he’s not the one to blame for ushering in this terrible wave of hiphop. Personally, I blame all the beef between east coast rappers that took place between 00-03 for allowing this wack rap from the South to thrive here.

Yes you didnt say to his face you suck, but all you said was true, he is all about that guap, and he says so himself, you dont like his music thats fair enough, its not good rap music, its decent stuff to dance to in the clubs though so let it be that.

   he shouldnt have talked reckless about nas, that was dumb for sure and what you said was fine. I hope you dont catch any heat off this as you dont come off as a hater, just straight up real talk.

4. Actually I think Peter did say that he hated on Soula Boy’s music in that interview, if I remember correctly (can’t be bothered to listen to it again).

   Honestly, I think that kid’s music is just wack. He’s always been up front about the moneymakers like Master P and 50 being his heroes in the industry, but the thing is, Master P and No Limit may have been all about the scrilla, but they also put out some damn good and exciting records up until about ‘98 or so. And I always thought 50 was wack, but I can’t deny that his first album was pretty well-crafted.

   SB’s music just sound really tame and unexciting though. I mean even comparing him to the other big “money-makers” in hip-hop that are active currently.. He doesn’t have a totally bugged out flow with lots of creative wordplay like E-40, he doesn’t have mad charisma or an easily identifiable flow/voice like T.I. or Jeezy, he doesn’t have any surprisingly introspective lyricism like Lil Boosie, he doesn’t have anywhere near the same level of energy on the mic as Three 6 and Project Pat do… I could go on. Even a lot of the really simple New Orleans bounce, early crunk and miami bass shit that was the real predecessor to this kid’s music was usually just way more gritty and exciting. I can’t even imagine that Soulja Boy shit sounding good in a club, just as a ringtone.

   Dude just sounds like he’s making music because he realized one day that “oh shit, this is all it takes to make money in rap now? I can do that!”, came up with a dance to give himself a gimmick, and then made more cash than almost anyone else in rap at the moment. Didn’t Hammer do basically the same shit in the early ’90s? His big album was one of like 10 rap albums to ever go diamond, but now you pretty much only hear his shit when you’re at a party and someone decides to throw on “U Can’t Touch This” or “Too Legit To Quit” as a joke. I predict the same fate for Soulja Boy. Oh well, seems like a nice enough kid, if a bit of a retard, so I hope he bought his family a nice house!

   I gotta say that I kinda admire how blatant he is with his “I don’t give a FUCK about hip-hop history” shit though. It’s pretty funny.

   Also, kinda unrelated, but I blame Jay-Z for that “I’m not a rapper, I’m a HUSTLER/crime kingpin” shit that everyone’s doing nowadays. I mean it was a cool and interesting idea at the time, but everyone needs to chill with it.

    9th actually chops samples and loads them into Fruity Loops, he doesn’t just use the default sounds a la Soulja Boy.

My yonger brother bought his latest album, of course it ain’t great, BUT it’s not the worst album that came out in 2008.
