Album of the Year Nominees?
By pmd on Dec 21, 2008 in Hip Hop |
Gimme your thoughts so I can really break this down properly. You know I loved Q-Tip, Wayne, Illa J, Jake One, Raphael Saddiq, and Prodigy. But what else? I can’t remember sh*t and frankly, I haven’t listened to Wayne in months.
What were your favs?

Kanye - 808’s,
Foreign Exchange, Common - Universal Mind Control.
I was a big fan of the mixtapes… WALE & KID CUDI… probably better than any albums this year.

I guess it all depends on whether you choose to nominee an album that YOU PEROSNALLY LIKED or an album that was a REAL IMPACT on hip hop in 2008.
So, as much as I loved Dela, Q-Tip, Large Professor, Statik Selektah, Prodigy and other, the album that did the impact is
Lil Wayne - Carter 3
which is not my favourite album of that year, btw.

Overall 2008 has been pretty weak. Still my number one album for 2007/2008 is Common’s Finding Forever (his latest album is crab though. Does anyone know who did the production on Finding Forever?)

Kind of a weak year for rap. Black Milk, the Roots, Heltah Skeltah, and Z-Ro were probably the ones I listened to the most. Also Madlib’s “producer/featuring” album was really really good.
I liked what I heard of the Q-Tip, Jeezy and Killer Mike albums, but never got around to buying them.
