Who is better than the Redskins? No…seriously

WARNING : The following op-ed is blatant gushing about the Redskins. Deal with it…

I’m not saying we’re going to win the Super Bowl or do anything of the sort, but I’m asking, right now–WHO exactly is better than the Redskins?
Well the Giants are. I mean–I don’t think they’re as strong on defense as we are but the fact is they beat us and they’re beating up every bum team they face. So give em their due–they look very strong.
Are the Cowboys better? Well not head to head right now and frankly the Cowboys have showed a certain carelessness at times that the Skins have not shown YET.
That’s it for the NFC. There’s no one in the west (Well maybe the Cards, but the Skins already beat them). The Bears still have high school quarterbacks. Maybe the winner of Minnesota-New Orleans is semi legit. Carolina looks good but certainly isn’t decidedly better than the Skins and the same can be said of the Bucs.
So let’s move to the AFC. Are the Pats better than the Skins? Not now. Not with with a quarterback named Matt Casselhoff. What about Bret and the Jets? Stop it. The next time the Jets score 56 points, it’s going to be after 180 minutes of football. How about the Colts? They certainly aren’t better now–maybe later, but I don’t think the Colts mean business this year. Is San Diego or Denver definitely better than the Skins? The Steelers or the Ravens? Jacksonville or Tennessee? All of these teams are pretty good and I definitely wouldn’t take them lightly, but admit, NONE of them are definitively better than the Redskins.
And who are the Redskins?
Well this Redskins team has won 9 of it’s last 11 games. They’re not the only ones to do so. The Giants and Pats have too. They have a new coach in Jim Zorn, who came from Seattle, where he was Quarterbacks coach. Last Spring when Zorn was hired I thought of him as the Sarah Palin of coaching (well at the time I probably didn’t use the Palin comparison but you get the idea).
Zorn appears to be the real deal, though. He is certainly the coach of the year through five games and he has a very Joe Gibbs-like demeanor. He is simple and serious. He’s friendly but not a push over. And he is doing something that is making this team believe. This Redskins team is not short on belief and heart.
Since and before the death of Sean Taylor, the Redskins have been surrounded by personal tragedy. Sean’s death was clearly unlike anything else, but in the months since his death, other team friends and family have passed away as well–including immediate family members of players and the tragic passing of the daugher of Skins’ Offensive Line Coach, Joe Bugel.
The Skins keep on trucking, though. Week after week they show a bit more. Jason Campbell has decided to be an NFL star. Clinton Portis looks like he’s 21 again. Santana Moss has been looking like 2005 Santana, and that defense. Wow–I’m gushing. But these guys play hard–regardless of who’s injured.
Week after week–the “experts” say bet against the Redskins. And the way things have been going–I say–let’s stick with that.
Giants, Giants, Giants.
Seriously.
You gonna fast on Thursday?

I definitely have to agree with you on this one. The Skins’ are very good at picking their spots to attack and Campbell is growing into a great QB.(though his performance today only got me three fantasy points)
The great thing about this Skins’ team is they’re approaching a good seven game stretch in the season where the key match-ups are home games and the rest are with under .500 teams. I can possibly see them at 11-1 or, at worst, 9-3 going into the final stretch of the season. We’ll definitely be seeing your team in the playoffs.
Gush away Rosenberg!(pause)

My girl is a fan of this team. I’m happy Jason is coming into his own. The NFL was getting low on great black qb’s. The NFC East is dirty, is it possible the Eagles are already out of the division/playoffs?

i am convinced that the redskins is the strongest team. Giants always start good early, they always collapse on the last half of the season, with the exception of last years fluke.

So lucky you added the Giants at the top there giving them their credit. I’m a Jet fan but any football fan can see that the Giants are doing what all great teams should, and that’s win the games they’re supposed to.
If the Skins can win the next three games (like they should against teams like the Rams, Browns, and Lions), then I’ll give them their credit.

G-FENSE!
And tribe, that’s a pretty glaring exception to your rule: the kind of exception that makes the rule not true at all.

its not my rule, its just what the giants manage to do every year. Bah why am i telling you youre a giants fan youre used to disappointment.
@pmd
i like the redskins, they are not going to win the division but i do think they will make the playoffs. But if you put tennesse on that field jason campbell will be shitting in his pants for the coin is flipped. Plus i dont think he will keep that starting job cause if they manage to have an impressive record by half the season and they start to lose a few he will be replaced.

the Skins have been on fire but in order to be legit, they need to beat the piss out of the next 3 opponents…the games can’t be close…also, we’re only a 1/3 of the way into the season so a lot can happen…either way, I’m gassed that they’re runnin’ things right now and I can’t wait ’til they play the giants..HTTR!!..
and pmd…MoCo represent…

Im glad all you redskins fans are getting your little hopes up its gonna feel so much better when they fall on their face. I gaurantee the bitch ass skins do not finish with more than eight wins. So I hope you guys savor the 4 wins that are left.

I can’t front. I love C Redskins fans. ‘Skins fans are some of the most loyal fans I’ve ever seen in my life. They support the skins through thick and thin. So, while respect your fandom of the skins and then have rattled off 4 in a row, against the cowboys and eagles no less. But the skins days are numbered, enjoy it while you can.
