Hate Palin, but Enough with the Smear Campaign

Today I was alerted to the news that Sarah Palin’s personal email account has been hacked and her emails have been published for the world to read. And I felt a strange sensation–disappointment. It upsets me that with it being so easy to knock down Palin because of her nonexistent credentials that people have taken to the same sort of smear tactics that the Clinton and McCain campaigns have thrown at Senator Obama in recent months.

sarah_palin2.jpgEvery day I seem to get emails with “personal” stories about Palin and I do the same thing every time they arrive in my inbox–check the spam box. Resorting to this kind of childish stuff is exactly what the McCain camp wants. Don’t fall for it. I hate to act all high and mighty, but come on–what makes good people different than bad people? Behaving just like the bad guys does not make you any different than them. So hate Sarah Palin all you want. After all, she may be the devil. But stick to the facts that we actually have in front of us.

  1. I understand where you’re coming from Pete, but I’ve heard and read that Palin often used her personal e-mail address (not her government address) for some work-related messaging. This could blow the door open on any possibly damaging cover-up stories.

  2. yeah, but the whole thing is..instead of hearing about her ideas and how flawed she is professionally, the media is going to cover this hacking story for the next 2 days (which is exactly what McCain wants).

  3. Peter PLEASE. People should be furious that they trying to pull this ish on us with Palin. And now that she got some mud on her skirt…its too much?

And you calling for clean Politrix?

(in the tone of Iverson saying “practice”)…

Politrix, Politrix, we talking about clean Politrix?

Haha. In a perfect world PMD…in a perfect world. I wish we could do it that way, but that is not the world in which we live; and choosing to do so now will prove too costly.

  4. I agree with you, generally–it’s hard for me to celebrate the invasion of another person’s privacy (though, admittedly, a McCain-Palin administration wouldn’t care too much about my privacy). I wonder about the legal implications of those e-mails now–will they still be admissible if they are obtained legally by those investigating Palin in AK?

That said, I do take comfort in the fact that this group has been pretty indiscriminate about who they hack in the past–so it’s not clear to me that this was entirely politically motivated.

  5. bitch has done some dirt, and is desperately trying to cover it up. she’s not too bright (ever heard her speak?), and she deserves every single bit of what she gets.

it’s like being a movie star: the fame and the gossip are part of the package. if you’re gonna put yourself out there for public office, you gotta expect it.

  6. I understand your comment PMD, but you have to remember, the other side railed Obama for like 2 months off some shit his pastor said. No, everybody in the world has some new “secret Palin ish”. I’ve stopped paying attention b/c all that will get old soon. As soon as she has to stand up & answer legit questions, she’ll fold. Until then, I definitely understand not drawing attention to bogus stuff. The media, unfortunately, in this 24 hour news cycle age that they created, will churn out everything candidate related. They’re expediting the investigation in Alaska which could reveal some interesting truths about the Governor. But we certainly need more facts on how jobs will grow & how this economy might get fixed (or at least stabilized a bit)

  10. I’d like to do a smear campaign on her grill.

On a serious note, it’s pretty foul when you stoop to that level. On a related note, there was a story about someone at the Agency that issues Passports who was looking up all these famous people’s history.

These people may be in the public spotlight but we don’t have to know every detail about their life, especially not to discredit them.
