Peter’s Douchebag of the Week : Scott Steiner
By pmd on May 11, 2008 in Wrestling |
TNA’s Scot Steiner spoke to Kevin Eck from the Baltimore Sun this week and ran his mouth on everything and everyone. I did not watch Steiner during his first couple of runs, but I have gone back and watched a lot. I have never been particularly impressed. His body looks absurd. He is one of the most obvious roid cases in the business, he has NO mic presence whatsoever, and his matches are very limited. That doesn’t stop Steiner from running his yapper, though.

what’s more disgusting–the chain net on my
head or my bulbous steroided belly button?
In his rant to Eck, Steiner buries HHH, HBK, and Ric Flair. He calls Flair “a cry-baby” and claims that no one in the WWE locker room respects him except his friends Hunter and Shawn. He also claims Michaels isn’t a real athlete and says Hunter’s success is only due to his marriage to Stephanie.
This is one thing that has made me sick about the wrestling business as I have learned it. It is a very political business and a worker’s success depends more than anything on his relationships with other workers and management. Some guys are unable to play the game. Some guys’ egos are too big. And as a result, they feel short-changed for their entire career. Scott Steiner obviously has a BIT of a chip on his shoulder. His comments were disgusting. Ric Flair’s place in history was written years ago. He has done so much for pro wrestling that it goes beyond anything I can write in a blog.
As for HHH, I certainly hear where Steiner is coming from, but give me a break. HHH has done a lot for the business himself and has put over a lot of people besides HBK and Flair. As for HBK–well I am the world’s biggest Bret Hart fan–and I STILL respect HBK. A - he is a different person today than he was years ago and B - he is a brilliant and innovative wrestler.
So Scott–keep talking trash. You better make sure it gets posted in blogs, though, or I’ll never hear it. In fact–without blogs, I would never hear from you again. Fortunately for me, I don’t care.

Stop hating, most of the things he says are true…and he’s so bad on the mic that he’s actually good for tv. Big Poppa Pump

cant hate on stiener pmd..i know you caught on to wrestling later on…but the stiener brothers were /are possibly the greatest workers in the history of the business….and you gotta give scott credit for staying relevant and recreating himself…but stieners were the greatest tage team and amazing workers…and thats not a work..thats a shoot

whoa whoa whoa…
I have been into wrestling for over 20 years…I just did not pay that much attention during the steiners’ best run, but cory–back to reality…
possibly the greatest workers ever? i dont know where you read or heard that but it is CERTAINLY NOT the most common thought in the world..and very rarely are they mentioned in the top FEW tag teams of all time..
you put them ahead of the bulldogs or road warriors? are you serious? you might want to check the history books on that bucko..
and EVEN if for some reason you believe that–that does not take away anything I said and certainly does not excuse Steiner’s ridiculous thoughts on Flair..outrageous

I thought the interview was pretty good. Steiner’s always been entertaining to me, he was always so unpredictable, I remember him doing a shoot about WCW firing Stone Cold, his mic got cut off and he got suspended for a month. As a kid Steiner represented the dark side, he was one of the only people to talk about the business while in character.
He can have an opinion on Flair though right? I love Flair, I watched Flair my whole life, he was incredible, but still, Steiner didn’t say anything he couldn’t back up, he used examples. He’s better than rappers.
Also…The Steiner brothers were a great tag team no question. Also The Genetic Freaks were pretty cool.

Everybody has their opinions and I think both Hart and Flair have made it clear that there’s a lot of politics involved in their critique.
But it’s kinda bugged Steiner says Flair was never an athelete cause he was recruited to play college football. And the part were Dick The Bruiser told him to get Flair to carry his bags was obviously meant as a rib, cause he knew Ric’d go apeshit if Steiner did that.
That being said The Steiners was an awesome team that definitely defined WCW tagteam’ing and their Japan-tours gave them an arsenal of moves few of their size could execute for years after that. It’s not a coincidence WWF called a hurracanrana a Frankensteiner for years nomatter who did it.
About Steiners promos, I never really cared for the Big Poppa Pump character either, but this one is insanely good:
