Catching Up with Dame Dash
By pmd on May 8, 2008 in Hip Hop, Videos |
Dame and I discuss Jim Jones’ progress as a rapper, Obama’s struggle, and much more. The best part of this is Dame’s interaction with his nephew. I have always admired Dame and think he is one of the quintessential New York hip hop characters and in this video, he is just so him. It’s also worth note that I bumrushed him on the street on his birthday while he was enjoying a leisurely cigar. His mood goes from semi-guarded to completely talkative over the seven minutes. Then I ran out of space on the Flip Cam.

lol@ the way he went from nas to Jim in a heartbeat.
Dame is the type of dude you’d love to have in your corner when the shit hits the fan.

Btw when are you giving jay reasonable doubt (-_-)

I’ve always had crazy respect for Dame. i think is the second biggest hiphop business man next to russell. Not for nothing but Rocawear and Rocafella fell off since he’s been gone.

best assessment i’ve ever heard of dame’s whole career:
I heard motherf*ckers saying they made Hov
Made Hov say,
“OK so, make another Hov”
Jay-Z feat. Chrisette Michele, Lost One

yeaaaah that sounds good on record, but look at Jay since then. There is no doubt that Dame needed Hov, but I would say that in terms of HIP HOP–Jay has fallen off since their split.

Is that the full interview? If not where can I get the rest of it at?
That was dope…. I wish Dame the best and I pray for that money whore known as Jay-Z or Mr. Knowles that man has no shame…
Its not about them making Jay-Z but they did teach him the back end of the business and that is what makes him who he is today.. Bill Gates started microsoft with his boys and they still with him and damn near as rich as he is ask Paul Allen about loyalty…
Aint shit in this world more important than that….
I wish Dame the best…. I hope he pops out again!

Ya’ll gotta remember. Jay-Z is in his late 30s. I don’t believe his missteps as an artist have anything to do with Dame. Probably have more to do with the fact that he’s bored with this game & needs to be pushed. What has Dame done since he left Jay-Z? State Property? Dash films? Never was a huge Dame supporter (Harlem cats always seemed to be so cocky for no reason) but he was very cool to give a bumrushing PMD a few minutes.

this is an extremely positive development
the long and short is that we will have a candidate by june
i still think hillary *might* pull the same “we want michigan/florida counted” shenanigans, but fuck her - these states went against the party and everyone agreed that they wouldn’t count. so i hope hill’s campaign shuts the f*ck up, adbicates (sooner rather than later), and keeps shit moving (but i know deep down that it’s a lot to expect from that biznatch)

I respect Dame a lot. Dudes been through a lot and still keeping it moving. 1 of the best business men in hip hop. I’ma have to take dipset serious now since Dame said so…

yo Dmax…you’re talking about dame like he’s a failure. He doesn’t make money in the mainstream so you can see his riches like Jay. He’s not a rapper or entertainer, he’s a business man. He ventures in real estate and fashion and other shit we wouldn’t know about. The nigga gets paper. Way more than you can drool for. Jay made money off shit Dame established and then just recently got his big 100 mill deal. If you think talent carries a man success, you are wrong. Dame put that nigga where he is. If talent was all you needed why is Nas where he is…Why wasn’t Big L big, Big Pun bigger than he should be, why was Mobb Deep not making a lot of money until 50 cent, Why was 50 cent not making money until Eminem, Why D-Block ain’t making a lot of money, Why State Property ain’t making mad money, Why Jadakiss ain’t making mad money….list goes on. Without Puffy, theres no BIG. Without Suge, theres no Pac. Without Dr. Dre, there no Eminem or 50 cent. WITHOUT DAME, THERES NO JAY-Z

Man thats so true. Like if people are reciting words that dame put in jays mouth.

All I was saying about Dame is hasn’t made any sorts of monumental moves since Jay & he split ways. Cats were saying Dame made Jay. Dame’s business grind is solid, but hasn’t produced a ton of successes (Ultimate Hustler, Armadale, etc.). He may still get his paper. I’m just not sold that Jay doesn’t make it without him. Talent does carry success, and in some instances, can carry a whole crew (Jay carrying the Roc, BIG putting & keeping Bad Boy on the map). It’s not about Dame vs. Jay. I think both were instrumental in the other’s success but in the end Dame’s post Rocafella career has yet to be defined by anything particularly great.

yo peter you sound stupid right now… you saying jay-z only rap good when he was with dame and it was because of dame dash… thats stupid shit right there…
and its funny how everybody thinks jay is scumbag and dame is a fucking saint when none of yall know them or what happen… if you talk to anybody they will tell you dame is a fucking snake… that nigga larry davis even called kay slay radio show and said that shit too, when dame try to steal his movie deal on his life… everybody always say its fucked up what jay did to dame, how you know dame aint do something to jay…
also peter if you dont like jay-z now thats cool, I still like kingdom come and american gangster, but for you to say jay fell off after dame left as if the nigga had anything to do with his rhymes is just stupid…
