The End of the Suns, and the Rise of the Sixers

That pains me to say, but it’s true. After the Celtics, I pull for a few teams and players. My second favorite team has always been the Wizards for obvious reasons. The last few seasons, though, like many other basketball fans, I have loved watching the Suns. Steve Nash has become one of my all time favorite players. Amare is amazing and the supporting cast of Barbosa, Grant Hill and the rest of the guys are incredible too. It seems to be over, though.
The Shaq trade may have worked if Nash was still the Nash of two years ago, but unfortunately for the Suns, and for all of us, Nash has lost a step. He can’t get to the basket in the same way and he doesn’t seem to make the unbelievable pass as often as he once did. Shaq is a shell of himself. At his absolute best, I don’t know if he can crack points and his free throw shooting (or lack there of) has made hack-a-Shaq completely effective.

On top of that, they’re stuck with the Spurs, who are the most underrated dynasty in the history of sports. My cousins and I often joke about how easy the regular season is for the Spurs. Robert Horry doesn’t even put on a jersey until March. He puts on sneakers in April, and his jersey around May 1st. This team is a machine and they’re the team that I fear the Celtics playing the most.
Who picked the Sixers to get up 2-1 on Detroit? Nobody, that’s who. Now this series is far from over and I still think Detroit will pull it out, but this start has already proven that Philly has a special group of young players capable of doing some damage and is probably one great player (Iverson anyone?) from being a contender in the East.
Ok time to settle into this Saturday quadruple header. Enjoy!

i hate to say it, but i agree with you. steve nash is past his prime. as well as all the shit you said, he also isn’t bombing crazy treys every second posession either.
shaq is also old/lazy. the celtics will have a better answer for duncan in KG.

I do not wanna jinx it, but yeah–it looks very good for LA vs the Cs..
and the crazy thing is Phil Jackson would be trying to break Red Auerbach’s championship record–a record that I’m sorry is much more deserved to be Auerbach’s, but hey that’s me..
8 straight for Red and though he had an unreal team he didn’t have jordan and then kobe and shaq

Haha Iverson is the last thing the 76ers need, the reason theyre doing so well is from pushing the rock and moving the ball thanks to the play from Andre Miller. That one last piece to the puzzle this offseason could very well be Elton Brand, though. Imagine that.

OH SHIT, might’ve spoken too soon about the suns! they KILLED the first half. i doubt they can keep this up for 4 games, but stranger things have happened.

PMD, you’re right about Nash. He’s still phenomenal & the prototypical PG. The problem is the Suns never invested in a backup point guard and have run him in to the ground. If Barbosa isn’t shooting well, he’s not giving you anything. I think the Suns have another win in them, but winning the series might be too much. Plus, remember when they had Tim Thomas, James Jones & other deadly three point shooters (even Marion was decent)? That made them much more dangerous. Now, cats can clog the middle & make it much harder for Nash to get to the lane for easy looks or passes. The Celtics look good. LA won’t make the Finals. They can’t get past Utah & the Spurs (if they win)/Hornets winner.

interesting points, Dmax.
perhaps this summer the suns need to look at acquiring some more *gasp* long range shooters?
