The Champ IS Hurt — Who’s Next??
By pmd on Oct 4, 2007 in Wrestling |

I like John Cena and I hate to see him vacate the title, because of a severe pectoral tear that will have him out through Wrestlemania at the very least. That said–it is sort of exciting that there will be a new champ, as most adult fans have become fed up with Cena beating EVERYONE over and over again. The question is–who will it go to next?
Before that, though, we have to take a second to touch on the incredible bad luck (or karma) that has hit Vince McMahon in the months post-Benoit. The WWE has lost the following guys to MAJOR injuries over the last year :
HHH
The Undertaker
Edge
Kennedy
Bobby Lashley
HBK
Rey Mysterio
John Cena.
In other words–every top guy but Orton.
HHH is back in full swing. Undertaker, Mysterio, and Kennedy are easing their way back, and Edge and Lashley are still a couple of months away from ring action. Between the injuries and suspensions, though, Vince is losing years off of his life. And now Cena–Raw’s top draw for the last two years is essentially gone for an eternity. So where to now? The rumors have been swirling that Chris Jericho will return to action this Sunday which would be a big boost, and my personal prediction is Jericho vs Orton for the title–with Jericho somehow getting the win and feuding with Orton, but who knows?? Maybe HBK comes back Sunday to take revenge on Orton for “injuring HBK” months ago. Maybe HHH goes over Umaga and fights again the same night to beat Orton for the title. Or maybe the finally let Orton hold the gold again.
What do you think Rosenberg Show wrestling nerds??

At this point in time, I don’t even think the WWE knows for certain who is taking the spot against Randy Orton for the belt…which if nothing else means that Orton will most likely walk away with the title. Majority of the suspensions have exceeded their 30 days, so basically all of those suspended last month, sans Booker T and perhaps one or two others, are able to compete in WWE matches now. Judging by WWE’s writing style, I’m not expecting Chris Jericho to walk in to No Mercy and wrestle Orton. I’m sure No Mercy will feature a lot more Jericho teases though. Triple H is slated to wrestle Umaga…so I would rule either of those two out as potential Orton opponents. Likewise with Kane/Taker in a match against Matt Hardy + Savio Vega…err MVP ..for the tag titles…would most likely rule them out as possibilities.
So really..the question becomes who’s left. Val Venis? A returning Shawn Michaels? Mr Kennedy? My guess would be one of these three or perhaps a combination of in a multi man match.
The other curve ball to throw out there is; is the Cena injury a work or shoot. If it’s a shoot, then it might be shitty to even mention, but I did not see the bump that took place. It’s kinda crazy to think though that the WWE’s top face would be out of action for 6-12 months due to a botched hip hop toss. Could this be a way for Cena to take some time off from camera and drop the title without getting pinned to keep him strong and continue the Orton feud? Dun dun dun.

WWE is havin’ the worst year ever.
I remember when maybe one or two crucial parts of the show would be injured, but you’d still have others around to carry the ball. This year alone, the FOUR top faces on RAW have been injured: HHH, Michaels, Lashley, and now Cena. Then on Smackdown (which is always suffering losses), you had Mysterio out for most of the year, then Taker, then Edge. Then there’s the steroid suspension shit from August, and Benoit making arguably the bigest heel turn in wrestling history back in June. Then you got people like Flair and Booker ready to roll out, RVD leaving… and it’s only a matter of time before those injury-prone mufukkas Orton and Batista get hit up again.
Yeah… the only thing worse than all of this happening in the same year would be all of it happening right before WrestleMania. But I don’t wanna jinx #24, so I’ll just shut up now.

…oh, and by the way- how disturbing is it that none of this kinda misfortune has befallen any of the useless muhfukkas? Cena’s out, HBK’s out… The Highlanders are healthy as a fukkin’ horse.

Admittedly, I haven’t watched near as much WWE TV as I did prior to the Benoit situation… so take this with a grain of salt.
I personally would love to see a Val Venis push. (Pause?)
Although as much I would also like to see Orton with the belt, he has never had that “it factor” to me that the top guy should have.
Sure Orton generates a response, but it’s not like “let’s tune in to see bitch ass Randy Orton get beat down.” It’s more like, “Get bitch ass Randy Orton off my TV”, and keep him off.
I wouldn’t mind seeing another Carlito push as well.

Jerihco should be there soon. Booker T is also supposed to be coming back soon so that should help with the talent pool.
Overall man…I always said buying out WCW and totally doing away with it was gonna fuck Vince in the end. The competition brought the best out of the wrestlers. Now that TNA has 2 hours hopefully they can beef up their storylines and garner interest to not necessarily have another wrestling “War”, but at least have some other shit to see like how it was in the 80’s with AWA, UWF, NWA, WWE, WCCW.
