Common, More on Mike Moore, and Charlie Murphy Pt. 2

I had a long heated IM conversation yesterday with my friend and hip hop snob, Barry Schwartz, about Common. Barry described Common as “the most boring rapper of the last 15 years” — a stark contrast to my thoughts of him being arguably the most consistent rapper of the last decade (behind maybe Ghostface). I was shocked, though. It was hard for me to accept a hip hop head having anything but respect and appreciation for Common’s work. I’m not saying I have a definitive answer as to what makes Common great, but I know that he’s great. I know one thing, though. Finding Forever is a gem. It’s the perfect continuation to Be. Cop it on Tuesday or die.

Com–you could’ve worn more than a t-shirt to homegirl’s prom!

I just noticed how many comments I had bashing my views on Michael Moore. Relax liberal cronies. I agree with Moore on most everything politically and you don’t have to f*cking tell me that the media is evil and perpetuating an evil misguided war. I’ve been saying that since you were screaming “DESTROY AFGHANISTAN” in 2001. I’m just saying–Michael Moore can be a douchebag. He has proven time and time again that he does not know how to avoid revolting people and screaming like a crazy person at Wolf Blitzer did very little to further any of Moore’s causes. I’m not one of those liberals who believes that just because someone is crazy left that they’re in the right. In fact, I saw Dead Prez last night and I have to say–as much as I loved Let’s Get Free — their “Free Mumia–cops are pussys–let’s kill these crackers” bullshit has gotten old and as gimmicky for them as “2 Stepping” is down south. Would you still be screaming “turn off the radio” if a station or two actually added your records?? You say you’re ’bout it ’bout it, but I doubt it doubt it.

ok start a revolution or sell some records, but right now you ain’t doin either…

Enough hate–here’s PART 2 of my interview with Charlie Murphy. The highlight here is the Chuckster saying that it’s a “shame the brother got CAUGHT” in reference to Mike Vick. Haha–never mind the electrocuting of innocent animals. Classic…

  1. I still can’t wait for that Common album. I had my doubts about putting Lily Allen on there for all the hipster-folk, but the track is awesome. Kanye has indeed done it again… what’s the verdict on the new Talib album?

but real quick, why ask Charlie Murphy about his brother? Dude’s been trying to distance himself from being in Eddie’s shadow for years, especially now, post-Chappelle’s Show. I just thought that was weird.

  2. Yo Rosenberg,

I aint no fucking liberal AT ALL. I was pulling ur card for trying to paint Wolfy as cool (just cause he is your friend). Of course Mike Moore can be an ass. In fact, he hasn’t really done shit for the Left.

  3. word cape..the beef wasnt about me/us protecting moore, but your support of cnn via blitzer.

by the way, racism, police brutality, etc are real as shit and people like dead prez will speak on that regardless if some people think it is played out or gimmicky. shit’s real in the field, kid.

  5. I really wasn’t defending Wolf cuz he’s a friend. He’s not my best friend or anything–I just really believe Wolf isn’t the problem. Wolf is a pawn in the game where as O’Reilly is really on the front lines of poisoning our culture. Nah mean??

  6. Common is on some grown black man shit. He’s trying to fit hip-hop with the same kind of shoes tread by cats like Harry Belafonte and Ossie Davis. Of course that’s a subjective cultural assessment from a cat who mourns the popular image of the black man in America and is trying his best to not outgrow hip-hop but there’s an aesthetic component too, not just a symbolic one. Consistency, swagger, style, creativity, and a drive to lead and not follow…

When did Common stop having dope concepts? Quality production? Entertaining live shows? Fresh lyrics?

    Exactly.

  7. I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Common, More on Mike Moore, and Charlie Murphy Pt. 2, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
